About

MLK Dayton, Inc., is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic organization.  Its mission is to inspire citizens to act on the vision of social justice created by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the clergyman, activist and prominent leader of the Civil Rights Movement who received the Nobel Peace prize for his efforts to end racial discrimination.

In advancing and promoting the dream, MLK Dayton has successfully galvanized and united residents of the greater Dayton area by a series of annual events highlighted by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial March and Rally.  Each year, thousands of people from every corner of the region take part in the event

The celebration also features an interfaith breakfast, workshops, an evening banquet and the awarding of college scholarship money to high school students for their winning essays on Dr. King’s connection with the existing social issues, such as racism, war and homelessness.

MLK Dayton is not affiliated with any one faith, denomination or church, but aspires to be a magnetic and inspiring event welcome to all faiths, denominations and churches interested in advancing and promoting the dream.

A planning committee composed of presidents or their designees of owned businesses, church leaders, community agencies, non-profit organizations and youth plans the march and the accompanying events each year.  MLK Dayton, Inc., was established under the leadership of Mr. Anthony Whitmore, Director, Government Relations, and Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority (RTA).

Each year, thousands of dollars are raised to support the march and the events.  Excess funds are donated to feed the hungry in the Miami Valley.
